Getting the taste right

Food memory is as important as food taste when meals are ordered according to many experts. This is the case when people order their meals through Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels.

When the orders come through, it is clear that the memory of foods from the past plays a big part in the selections being made. Old favourites such as Bread and Butter pudding are regularly ordered. Recently this dessert was in such high demand and we sold out. It is back in stock and continues to sell well.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels has a Food Panel which meets four times a year to discuss the menu options and to ‘taste’ the food being offered. This happened last week as the Christmas menu was finalised.

At the start of December, the Christmas menu will be delivered to those who order meals through us. Bethany McLean, our Client Services Officer, has spent a considerable amount of time making sure there is choice and something special on the menu this year.

The Food Panel considered these options at their recent meeting. They were very happy with the choices being recommended said Chairman Les Carter. The options were exciting and will make Christmas day special for these people.

Eurobodalla Meals on Wheels regularly surveys those receiving meals and the Food Panel looks at this data. The information guides the choices offered.

It is obvious that memory, as well as well as taste, assist with decisions. Often, we hear, “it is just like mother use to make."
